Miskolc’s Architectural Heart and Hilltop Views

Start with the quietest hour at the city’s only surviving synagogue, then walk off lunch with a view.

Best time: noneAbout 120 min

Timeline

  1. 10:00

    Miskolc Plaza

Grab a coffee or a light breakfast at one of the cafes in Miskolc Plaza. The stores open at 09:00 on weekdays and 10:00 on Sundays, so you will find the atmosphere calm and unhurried before the midday rush.

  2. 10:15

    Synagogue

Walk five minutes to the Synagogue on Kazinczy Street. Arriving early ensures you can appreciate the Neo-Romanesque and Romantic details of the facade, including the rose window, without the crowds. Note that the interior is currently under restoration, so the experience focuses on the exterior architecture.

  3. 10:45

    Szomjas Szerda

Head to Szomjas Szerda for lunch. This pub is just a three-minute walk from the synagogue and opens at 08:00, making it a reliable spot for a hearty meal. It is a local favorite, so arriving by 11:00 helps you secure a table before the afternoon crowd builds.

  4. 11:30

    Avas Lookout Tower

Walk fifteen minutes southwest to the Avas Lookout Tower. This 72-metre tall TV tower offers a panoramic view of the city. It is a good place to rest your legs and take in the skyline of Miskolc from the Avas hill.

Local tip

The Synagogue is closed for interior visits while under restoration. Check the current status if you plan to see inside, but the exterior is always open to view.
