Timeline

  1. 16:33

    Roosevelt Park and Zoo

Arrive at Roosevelt Park and Zoo before the sun dips below the horizon. The park closes at 6PM in January, so you have time to stroll the grounds. Look for the sundial near the train station and the statue of Theodore Roosevelt in the southwest corner as the sky begins to change color.

  2. 17:18

    Roosevelt Park and Zoo

Watch the sunset. The sun sets toward the WSW, offering a clear view from the open spaces of the park. The golden light from 16:27 will have just faded, leaving a crisp winter twilight.

  3. 18:03

    Roosevelt Park and Zoo

Head to Planet Pizza for dinner. It is located near Scandinavian Heritage Park, just a short walk from the zoo area. The pizza restaurant is a good spot for a casual meal after the cold evening air.

Local tip

Park hours are strict in winter. Make sure you are inside the park before 6PM to enjoy the sunset views without being asked to leave.
