Timeline
20:00
Grab a coffee or a snack from the museum cafe. The hangars are open and it’s a calm way to start the evening before the crowds arrive.
20:30
Walk out to the edge of the airfield. Find a spot with a clear view to the west. The sun sets toward the WSW, so position yourself to catch the final light hitting the aircraft fuselages.
21:15
Stay for a while. The light changes quickly, but the atmosphere on the base is unique. You can still see the planes silhouetted against the darkening sky.
Local tip
The museum is still an active flying base. Keep an eye out for training flights; they often fly low during the golden hour.
Check before you go
- The museum is open until 17:00 on weekends and 15:00 on weekdays. If you are visiting on a weekday, you may need to check if the cafe is still serving snacks after closing time for the tours, or bring your own refreshments.
- Check the route to the museum as public transport options may be limited late in the evening.
