Morning Climb and Quiet Afternoon

Start your day early to beat the heat and the crowds on the path to the Cave of Hira.

Best time: noneAbout 240 min

Timeline

  1. 08:00

    Cave of Hira

Begin the climb to the Cave of Hira. This 270-meter ascent is a significant physical effort, so pace yourself. The cave is where Muslims believe Muhammad first received the Quran. The walk from Mecca is about 3 kilometres, so arrive early to allow plenty of time for the climb and reflection without rushing.

  2. 09:30

    Jabal Al Noor Park

Descend and head to Jabal Al Noor Park. It is only a 15-minute walk from the cave area. Use this time to rest in the shade, hydrate, and let the morning heat subside. The park offers a calm space to decompress after the climb.

  3. 10:30

    Al Hadj Park

Walk to Al Hadj Park. This is a 33-minute walk from the cave area, or a short hop from Jabal Al Noor Park if you are already in the vicinity. Spend the early afternoon here. It is a quieter spot to sit, read, or simply watch the city life from a distance. Since there are no food shops listed nearby, bring your own water and snacks from your start time.

Local tip

The climb is steep. Wear sturdy shoes and carry water. The park visits are best done in the mid-morning to early afternoon to avoid the strongest sun.

Check before you go

  • Bring plenty of water and snacks as there are no food or drink shops listed in the immediate vicinity of the cave or the parks.
  • Check the route for public transport or taxi options if you do not wish to walk the 3 kilometres from Mecca to the cave.
