Timeline
17:25
Grab a drink at Gallow Green. This garden bar is open until 22:30 on weekdays and weekends, so it will be lively and open well before sunset. The 6-minute walk from the Vessel makes it a perfect pre-game stop.
17:40
Arrive at the Vessel. Buy your admission ticket and enter the structure. The rules require you to be with a friend, so ensure you have a companion. You will climb the 16-story honeycomb structure to find your spot.
18:15
Watch the sunset. The sun sets toward the W. From the Vessel’s height, you can see the Hudson River and the intricate framework of the structure against the fading light. The westward view offers the best angle for the sunset colors.
18:35
Descend the stairs. The 154 flights of stairs are best tackled when the light is fading and the crowds are thinning. Enjoy the unique perspective of the steel mesh as you go down.
18:50
Walk to the High Line Park. The 11-minute walk from the Vessel leads you to this elevated park built on a defunct railway. It is a short, flat stroll that offers a contrast to the vertical climb you just completed.
Local tip
The Vessel requires admission tickets and a companion. Plan your climb to arrive just before golden light starts at 17:38 to secure the best viewing spots before the main sunset at 18:15.
