Dukes 92

By far the most popular venue in Castlefield, Dukes 92 has an unusual, but successful, mix of antique furniture, modern deep leather sofas, and minimalist décor. Although relatively quiet in winter, it is hugely popular on hot summer days due to its large patio area overlooking lock number 92 of the Rochdale Canal. An outside bar has been installed to reduce what can be a lengthy wait for refreshment.

One of very few pubs left in Rusholme. A Wetherspoon pub so cheap food & drink is available.

Friendship Inn

Pub in an impressive Victorian house with a good mix of students and locals. Serves good beer, but average food.

Spectacular Victorian show-pub with beer from local Marble brewery. Inside, the pub has a high, glazed ceiling, ceramic walls and a bar that slopes down with the hill. Great beer & food makes the walk here worthwhile.

Matt and Phreds

Good little tucked away jazz club. Also serves up good pizza. They have jazz bands every night except Mondays (when it's closed) at 10PM. There is free entry before 8PM. If you want to enjoy the jazz seated, seats have to be booked at least a few days beforehand.

The venue to see bands before they make it big! Bands such as Oasis and Badly Drawn Boy have played here. Well worth a visit. Can be a little bit pokey inside, as it's not the biggest venue!

24 taps on a wall behind the bar, many for keg and two for cask beers and one for cider. Fusion bar snacks.

Away from the Castlefield basin on Liverpool Road you will find The Oxnoble. It has the distinction of being the only pub in the country to be named after a potato - the Ox Noble.

Modernised traditional pub, although it does feature on its walls an interesting aerial photograph of pre-developed Castlefield. Soundtrack of soul and funk with congenial staff set it apart from the others.

42nd Street

Previously owned by the late football legend George Best, it plays a mixture of classic and modern indie, 1960s pop and 70s funk & soul. The entrance is free before 10:30PM and the drinks are cheap.
