Timeline
16:45
Grab a quick espresso and a pastry at La Trainera. It is open from 08:00 on weekdays, so you have plenty of time before the golden light begins. The wine selection is excellent, but the morning pastries are the reliable fuel for a cold January start.
17:15
Walk to the Templo de Debod. The park is quiet at this hour. Position yourself near the temple walls facing west. The low sun will catch the stone facade and cast long shadows across the water in the reflecting pool.
18:00
End the morning with a proper Madrid breakfast at Museo del Jamón. It opens at 09:00 on weekdays, which fits perfectly after the light has peaked. Order a ham sandwich and fresh fruit to keep the energy up.
Local tip
The walk from La Trainera to the temple is about 30 minutes. If you want to shorten it, check the route from the restaurant to the park entrance.
