Arrive at Estación de Chamberí 30 minutes before sunrise. The station is closed to the public until 10:00 on Saturday, but you can view the exterior and the surrounding plaza in the quiet morning light. The architecture by Antonio Palacios is best appreciated in the soft, early light. Note: The museum opens at 10:00 on Sat, so you cannot enter yet. Check the route if you need to get here earlier.

Stand in the plaza facing the station as the sun hits 08:36. The light will be low and golden. This is the moment. The station itself is a 'ghost station' from 1919, now a museum. You are looking at the building that has been silent for decades, now waking up.
09:21
Walk 9 minutes to Café Comercial. It is the oldest cafe in Madrid, opened in the 1880s. The downstairs is traditional and warm, a perfect contrast to the cool morning air. Order a coffee and something sweet. It is open from 08:30 on Saturday, so you are just in time.

Return to Estación de Chamberí. By 10:00, the museum is open. Book your ticket in advance on the website. Go inside to see the original counters, signs, and maps from the early 20th century. The space is preserved exactly as it was when the last train left in 1966.
Local tip
The museum requires booking from the website. The English site is linked from the Spanish one. Bring your phone for the ticket.
