Things to do in Macau

1. DoPeninsula

   Casino Lisboa

   The grand old dame of Macau's casinos, the Lisboa offers an older world feel on its gaming floors, structured in a labyrinth of different clubs and rooms for various levels of play, with displays of antiques owned by the late gambling tycoon Stanley Ho. Tables play in both MOP and HKD.

2. DoColoane

   Cheoc Van

   竹灣 - "bamboo bay"

   This is the smaller and more beautiful beach. The sand here is golden and more inviting to sunbathe or play on. There is a nice curved swimming pool just by the beach (as opposed to the traditional rectangular one at Hac Sa). A cordoned-off area of the bay is set aside for swimmers, and members of the Winter Swimmers Association go swimming here daily (yes, even in the coldest of winter!).

3. DoPeninsula

   Grand Lisboa

   A prominent, 261m tall hotel located right next to the famed Casino Lisboa, effectively an extension of it. It's the tallest building in Macau and with the lotus shape also most distinctive part of its skyline. Inside, a 218 carat diamond The Star of Stanley Ho is on permanent display.

4. DoColoane

   Hac Sa

   黑沙 - black sand

   Hac Sa beach, the larger of the two, in a bay with the Grand Coloane resort on its eastern end. The water is of mediocre quality but brave swimmers can enter the water here. Those less brave choose the swimming pool just opposite the beach.

5. DoCotai

   Macau Dome

   澳門蛋

   Is a bowling centre of international standard, constructed in 2005 for the East Asian Games. There are 24 lanes, the first four of which may be used by children as these lanes are equipped with raisable borders. A lane costs MOP20 per person a game during the day, MOP30 in the evening. The Macau Dome can be reached from Macau and Taipa by bus 21, 21A, 25, 26, or 26A, or from Taipa by bus 15 (get off at Rotunda Flor de Lotus).

   The Sands offers a more open Las Vegas feel along with a smoke-free gaming room, the Pearl Room. Tables at the Sands play almost exclusively in HKD.

   Resort complex including five hotels (The Londoner Hotel, Londoner Court, Conrad Hilton, St. Regis and Sheraton Grand) and replicas of Elizabeth Tower (better known as Big Ben), the Houses of Parliament and Crystal Palace.

   The Venetian Macao Resort Hotel

   The Venetian is touted as the largest casino, and fourth largest building, in the world by floor area. At a cost of nearly $2.4bn, it is hardly a surprise. There are close to 3,000 suites, 16,000 staff members, 840 gaming tables and 3,400 slot machines. In addition it has a 15,000-seat sports arena. The concept is Venice meets China and there are even indoor canals replete with gondola and sampan rides, as well as a shopping mall, and indoor Venetian styled squares.

9. DoPeninsula

   Wynn Macau

   On 6 September 2006 Wynn's huge casino/hotel/resort complex opened, and many expect it to soon surpass all of its rivals in gambling income. Every 15 minutes there are short fountain shows in front of the hotel with music, spraying fountains and the occasional bursts of flame—go after dark for the spectacular lights that are part of the show. The casino is beautiful with mostly slot machines and baccarat tables. The Wynn offers lots of very upscale shopping and several fine restaurants.

10. DoCotai

    Wynn Palace

    Like its counterpart on the Macau Peninsula, the Wynn Palace has a performance lake with light and fountain shows. The fountains do some low-key dancing constantly, but the real shows, set to music, are every 20–30 minutes and are more spectacular than the ones at the other Wynn. The hotel/casino also has cable cars that carry you through the air around the performance lake on your way into the building.
