Croix-Rousse Sunrise

Beat the city to the light. Start your day at the top of the hill before the rest of Lyon wakes up.

Best time: sunriseAbout 90 min

Timeline

  1. 07:47

Palais Saint-Pierre / Musée des Beaux Arts

Walk 20 minutes NNW from Atelier An.Berto to Palais Saint-Pierre / Musée des Beaux Arts. Arrive early to find a quiet spot on the grounds or nearby streets facing WSW. The sun rises at the exact moment you are settled.

  2. 08:27

    Nardone

Head back down to the anchor area. Stop at Nardone for ice cream. The terrace is open from 10:00 in winter, which aligns with the post-sunrise timing. Note: It gets overcrowded on sunny weekends, so be prepared to queue, but it is worth the wait if you are a real ice cream fan.

  3. 08:57

    Hot Club de Lyon

End your morning at Hot Club de Lyon, a jazz club in an old typical cellar. While live jazz starts at 21:30, the venue is open for drinks and atmosphere during the day. It is a perfect place to settle in after the cold morning air.

Local tip

The walk from the museum back to the anchor is downhill. Wear layers; the morning air at the top of Croix-Rousse is significantly colder than downtown.
