Timeline
15:21
Grab a coffee at Cafe Ariman. It is the best spot for a quiet start, with oldtimers playing board games and a relaxed atmosphere. Check that it is open; on January 15th it closes at 24:00, so you have plenty of time.
15:56
Walk to Lund Cathedral. The building is open until 17:00 on weekdays in January, so you can enter comfortably. Head straight to the elaborate astronomical clock on your left after entering. The clock show runs at 12:00 and 15:00, so you will have just missed the main mechanical display, but the interior is perfect for soaking in the atmosphere as the light fades.
16:06
Stand outside the cathedral or in the doorway as the sun sets toward the SW at 16:06. The golden light from 14:57 has just finished, but the fading light still highlights the stone facade. This is the moment to take in the view of the second-largest cathedral in the Nordic countries.

Klostergatans Vin och Delikatess
End the evening with dinner at Klostergatans Vin och Delikatess. It is only a short walk from the cathedral. Enjoy great Swedish and French food with fresh bread from the next-door bakery. It is open until 23:00 on weekdays, so you can stay as late as you like.
Local tip
The astronomical clock show is highly recommended, but since you are timing this for sunset, you will miss the 15:00 show. If the clock display is more important to you than the sunset timing, arrive earlier. For the sunset experience, the quiet interior and the exterior light are the main draws.
