Timeline

  1. 15:20

    Il Gusto

Grab a quick pasta or seafood dish at Il Gusto. It is an inexpensive casual spot just six minutes walk from the museum, perfect for fueling up before the evening chill sets in.

  2. 15:50

    Alexander Fleming Laboratory Museum

Enter the Alexander Fleming Laboratory Museum. The free admission lets you wander through the preserved laboratory where Fleming discovered penicillin in 1928. The small size means you can see it all comfortably before the light changes.

  3. 16:20

    Alexander Fleming Laboratory Museum

Step out of the museum doors and look west. At sunset on 15 January, the sun sets toward the SW, casting a warm, low-angle golden light across the street and the façade of the building. This is the key moment for the photo.

  4. 17:05

    The Mad Bishop & Bear

End the evening with a real ale at The Mad Bishop & Bear. This Fuller's pub is a five-minute walk away and serves well-kept ales in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. It is open until 21:00, giving you just enough time to unwind after the sunset.

Local tip

The museum closes at 13:00, so this plan works best if you treat the museum visit as a pre-sunset cultural stop earlier in the day, or simply use the exterior for the sunset shot. If you visit the museum interior, you must go before 13:00. The sunset viewing is from the street outside.
