Timeline

  1. 16:23

    Riviera Maya

Grab a quick bite or drink at Riviera Maya. The kitchen opens at 11:00, so you have plenty of time before the evening rush.

  2. 16:38

    Over-the-Jumps Carousel

Walk five minutes to the Over-the-Jumps Carousel. This is the world’s only waving carousel, a National Register of Historic Places entry built in the 1920s. Arrive just before the golden light hits to find your best angle.

  3. 16:43

    Over-the-Jumps Carousel

Watch the sunset glow hit the carousel’s historic woodwork. The sun sets toward the WSW, casting long shadows across the entrance plaza.

  4. 17:08

    Riviera Maya

Head back to Riviera Maya for dinner. It is open until 21:00 on weekdays, giving you time to enjoy a full meal after the light fades.

Local tip

The carousel is located right at the zoo entrance plaza. If you have zoo tickets, you can stay longer, but the exterior plaza is accessible for the sunset viewing.
