Timeline
12:38
Start at the Museu da Água when it opens. Spend the first hour exploring the exhibits on Lisbon’s water supply infrastructure. The building itself is a historic reservoir, so the atmosphere is cool and quiet before the midday crowds arrive.
15:38
Walk 15 minutes to Chafariz do Vinho. This wine bar sits under the arches of the city's former aqueducts. It is the perfect spot to linger over a glass of wine and some of their great selection of appetizers. The setting is pleasant and shaded, making it an ideal break in the afternoon heat.
16:58
Walk 21 minutes southwest to Miradouro de Santa Luzia. This viewpoint in Alfama offers a lovely view over the rooftops and the river. The golden light from the setting sun will be starting to hit the terracotta tiles, creating a warm glow. Arrive just before sunset to catch the best light.
17:38
Walk 51 minutes west to the Mãe d'Água das Amoreiras (Reservatório da Mãe d'Água das Amoreiras). This historic reservoir offers an excellent panorama as the sun sets toward the WSW. The walk is long, so use it to stretch your legs and reflect on the day. The moment of sunset is the highlight here, with the light fading over the city.
