Timeline
19:13
Grab a coffee at Lisbon’s oldest café. The interior is a time capsule of the 18th century, with tiled walls and a long wooden bar. It is the perfect place to soak in the atmosphere before the evening rush.
19:53
Walk up to Miradouro de Santa Luzia. This viewpoint sits in Alfama, uphill from the cathedral. The terrace offers a lovely view over the red rooftops and the river as the light begins to soften.
20:13
Stay at the miradouro for the sunset. The sun sets toward the WNW, casting a warm glow over the Tagus river and the historic district. This is the key moment of the experience.
20:43
End the evening with dinner at Farol de Santa Luzia. This Portuguese restaurant is located near the viewpoint and is a great place to have typical food before climbing to Castelo S. Jorge if you have the energy.
Local tip
Café Martinho da Arcada opens at 12:00 and closes at 15:00 for lunch, then again from 19:00. Since you are visiting for sunset, aim for the evening slot or arrive before 15:00 if you prefer the historic morning vibe. The walk from the café to the viewpoint is short but uphill.
