Start with a cake and coffee at Riquit. The copper elephant heads at the entrance set the tone for a classic Leipzig afternoon. The wide selection of gateaux is perfect for fueling up before the climb.
19:06
Walk up to the Panorama Tower. As the tallest building in Leipzig, it offers the best vantage point. Find the observation platform at the top and position yourself facing west. By 19:21, the golden light will be hitting the cityscape, and by 20:06, the sun will set toward the WNW.

Head down to Auerbachs Keller. This medieval pub, operating since 1525, is one of Germany’s oldest continuously operated pubs. It is a fitting place to end the evening, steeped in history and just a short walk from the tower.
Local tip
The walk from the tower to Auerbachs Keller is short, but the tower can get crowded at sunset. Arrive early to secure a good spot on the platform. Auerbachs Keller is expensive, so keep that in mind for your evening budget.
Check before you go
- Riquit is open until 20:00, so you have plenty of time for cake before sunset.
- Auerbachs Keller opens at 12:00, so it will be open for your post-sunset drink.
