Sunset on the Wild Coast

The Côte sauvage is a wide, open stretch of sand facing west. Arrive just before the sun dips below the horizon to catch the last warm light on the water, then head inland for a quiet evening.

Timeline

  1. 17:16

    Côte sauvage beaches

Walk along the sand at Plage de la pointe Espagnole or any of the five developed sections. The white sand reflects the fading light, and the ocean breeze is crisp. Keep an eye on the water if you plan to go near the edge, as currents can be strong.

  2. 17:46

    Côte sauvage beaches

Stand still and watch the sun set toward the WSW. The sky turns pink and orange over the Atlantic. This is the best time for photos before the light fades completely.

  3. 18:31

    Côte sauvage beaches

Head back toward the Forêt de la Coubre as darkness falls. The beach is now quiet and the stars begin to appear. Check the route for the walk back to the nearest town center for dinner and drinks, as no food or drink shops are listed in the immediate vicinity.

Local tip

The beaches are popular with surfers. Give them space while you enjoy the view. Lifeguards are present in the summer, but always swim with caution.

Check before you go

  • The Côte sauvage is exposed. Bring a warm layer for the evening breeze.
  • Swimming is possible in the five developed sections, but currents are strong. Be careful, especially with children.
