Sunset

Golden Hour at Ansgar

Kjell Nupen’s triangular chapel is designed to catch the light. Time your visit so the sun frames the glass just as it dips below the horizon.

Timeline

  1. 17:37

    Ansgar Chapel

Take the M2 bus to Hånes senter and walk to Ansgar Chapel. The 9x9x9 m structure is quiet and intimate. Enter while the afternoon light is still soft inside, before the final show begins.

  2. 18:07

    Ansgar Chapel

Find a spot inside or just outside the chapel doors. The triangular glass construction is oriented toward the southwest. As the sun hits the 16:11 mark, the light will flare through the glass, turning the interior gold and casting long shadows. Keep your camera ready for the exact moment the sun aligns with the apex.

  3. 18:52

    Paradisbukta

Walk 37 minutes west-southwest from the chapel to Paradisbukta. The sun has set, but the sky often holds color over the water. It is a calm place to let the visit settle and enjoy the post-sunset stillness.

Local tip

The chapel is open daily until 20:00, so you have plenty of time to linger after the sunset moment. Check the bus route for the M2 if you need precise timing.

Check before you go

  • Ansgar Chapel opens Mo-Su 08:00-20:00.
  • The sunset alignment is specific to late October (around 18:22). In winter, the sun sets earlier and in a slightly different direction; in summer, it sets much later and toward the northwest, which may not align with the chapel’s primary glass face in the same way.
