Timeline
16:00
Grab a quick coffee or snack at KOKOSICA. It is a small café near the Port Tower area, perfect for fueling up before the walk. Check that it is open; it is only open Wednesdays through Sundays from 10:00 to 19:00.
16:30
Walk up to Sōraku-en Garden. It is a short climb from the harbor level. The garden is open until 16:30, so you will need to buy a ticket and enter before then to secure your spot inside the grounds. The ¥300 entry fee is good value for the quiet atmosphere.
17:10
Find a quiet corner in the garden to watch the sunset. The sun sets toward the WSW at 17:10, casting a warm glow over the city and the distant mountains. It is a peaceful moment away from the bustle of the port below.
17:40
Walk down to Meriken Park. It is a 22-minute walk SSE from the garden. The park sits on the harborfront and offers a poignant view of the waterfront and the Port Tower lit up against the evening sky. The earthquake memorial adds a layer of solemnity to the evening stroll.
Local tip
The garden closes at 16:30, so plan to enter early. If you arrive after closing, you can still view the sunset from Meriken Park below, but you will miss the interior of the garden.
