Golden Hour at Queen's Gardens

Skip the theatre queues and catch the sunset over the old docks instead. It is a shorter walk, better light, and far more relaxed.

    Queen's Gardens

Walk to Queen's Gardens. This spot sits on the site of the old Queen's Dock and offers an open view toward the west. It is only a short walk from the old town pubs.

    Queen's Gardens

Watch the sun set. In January the sun sets toward the SW, casting golden light across the gardens and the water where the dock once stood. The view is unobstructed and peaceful.

  4. 16:30

    The Covered Market

End the evening at The Covered Market. Wander through the stalls selling local foodstuffs. It is a good place to pick up a late snack or a souvenir before heading home.

Local tip

The walk from the old town pubs to Queen's Gardens is straightforward. Just head east from the historic centre. The market closes early, so check the specific stall hours if you need something specific.

Check before you go

  • Ye Olde White Harte is open Mo-Sa 08:30-20:00 and Su 10:00-16:00. If you are visiting on a Sunday, you must arrive before 16:00 to drink there. For a January sunset plan, Saturday is the best day to ensure the pub is open for your pre-sunset drink.
