Timeline
17:00
Pick up a coffee at Filosofi Kopi. It is just a short walk from the Institut and opens at 11:00, so it will be busy but ready for you. Grab a drink to go or find a seat if you want to watch the city wake up from its afternoon lull.
17:45
Walk to the Institut français d'Indonésie. You have time to kill before the light changes. Check the monthly schedule for any film screenings or conferences that might be happening, or simply explore the grounds and enjoy the architecture while the sun is still high.
18:15
Find a spot near the windows or in the garden to watch the golden light hit the building. The sun sets toward the WSW, so the light will be warm and directional. This is the perfect moment to take in the atmosphere before the evening programme begins.
18:45
Stay for the evening. The Institut stays open until 21:30 on weekdays and 22:00 on Saturdays. Use this time to browse any exhibitions, join a conversation at a local concert, or just enjoy the cool evening air in the cultural centre.
Local tip
The Institut is easily reached via TransJakarta by stopping at K01-12 Sarinah. If you prefer to walk, the area around Sarinah has plenty of options if you get hungry later.
