Arrive at Santral İstanbul before the sun rises. The converted power plant’s industrial architecture looks stark and dramatic in the pre-dawn light. Wander the grounds and find a quiet spot near the Energy Museum to wait for the first rays of sun.
08:27
Watch the sunrise. On 15 January the sun sets toward the WSW, but in the early morning the light hits the plant’s brickwork and steel structures from the east, creating a warm, golden glow on the industrial facade. This is the key moment of the experience.
08:54
Walk 10 minutes to Beltur Kafe for coffee. It opens at 07:00, which is 27 minutes before sunrise on 15 January, so it will be open and ready for you. Grab a hot drink to warm up after the morning chill.
09:02
Head to La Mekan for breakfast. Located just 11 minutes from the landmark, this breakfast and brunch restaurant is the perfect place to sit down and enjoy a meal as the day fully begins.
Local tip
The museum is free, but if you want to see the inside of the old coal-fired plant, the guided tour costs 35 TL. Check if you need to book one in advance.
