Arrive at the Süleymaniye Mosque complex. The cemetery to the east offers a quiet vantage point. Find a spot facing west toward the Golden Horn. The view is open and unobstructed, perfect for watching the first light hit the water and the minarets.

Walk down to Efsane Kahvaltı for a hearty Turkish breakfast. The non-touristy area and wide variety of dishes make it a rewarding stop after the cold morning air. Note that it closes at 16:00, so go early.

Return briefly to the mosque grounds or the nearby Süleymaniye Hamamı area to digest the meal and take in the morning light on the architecture. The complex is free to enter and open from 08:30.
Local tip
The mosque closes at 13:30 on Fridays. On other days it stays open until 17:00. The breakfast spot closes at 16:00, so plan your morning accordingly.
