Timeline
09:00
Grab a coffee and a light breakfast at Dawn on the Amazon. The view from the end of the boulevard is perfect for watching the river wake up, and the food is excellent to start the day.
09:30
Walk down to Plaza 28 de Julio. It is just a short stroll from the riverfront. Use this time to stretch your legs in the green space before heading deeper into the jungle.
10:30
Head out to Tapiche Jungle Reserve. This is a day’s journey upriver from Iquitos, so you will need to check the route for transport via Nauta and Requena. Arrive in the late morning to see the primary rainforest and wildlife in a natural setting before the midday heat peaks.
12:00
Return for lunch at Huasaí Restaurant. It is one of the best values in Iquitos and very popular with local business people. Order the lunch menu and try the tropical fruit juices to cool down.
Local tip
Tapiche is a private conservation project in a remote location. Ensure you have arranged your transport in advance, as it is a significant journey upriver.
