Nearby at the top of the 1 Peking Road office building is an alternative and less touristy spot with equally impressive views. As well as a bar, they have a Japanese and Italian restaurant for those without a budget.

Ashley Road

Between Nathan Road and the Ocean Terminal shopping mall, features many Western restaurants and bars.

Biergarten

This friendly German bar is one of the few places in Kowloon where you can find a good range of quality beers. Excellent German food is served — not just sausages and sauerkraut. Use Exit N2 at East Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station.

Carnegie's

Rock music themed bar. Live bands playing occasionally, sports on multiple screens and a big screen, dancing the night away on the bar top.

Felix

Atop the Peninsula Hotel on Salisbury Rd, is known for its Philippe Starck interior and the views of the harbour skyline, whilst the men's bathroom has an impressive view up Nathan Road. According to legend, the world's first screwdriver was mixed up here, sampling this simple mix of orange juice and vodka will set you back around $100 a pop.

Hutong

Hutong is a great place to get a good view of Hong Kong from the top floor of a business building. It's a Michelin starred restaurant with amazing food — try the signature crispy lamb breast with garlic and ginger.

Joe Bananas

This is one Hong Kong's most famous and popular bars, and can be highly recommended to younger travellers. Drinks are competitively priced, and staff are helpful and friendly.

Knutsford Terrace

Near the Miramar hotel is perhaps best described as the 'Lang Kwai Fong' of Kowloon, and has a large number of bars and restaurants of variable quality that cater for mid-range budgets. A little smaller and less phrenetic than Lan Kwai Fong, but well worth the effort to poke your nose along this narrow street on a Saturday evening.

Mody Road/Centennial Garden

Close to many good hotels, this area of Tsim Sha Tsui offers a more relaxed environment for a drink. Here you will find bars and restaurants spilling out onto the pavement. Leave East Tsim Sha Tsui station at Exit P1, and head past the Kowloon Shangri-La hotel.

Staunton's Wine Bar & Cafe

A western-style restaurant with a bar on the ground floor and table service upstairs.

The Cafe Corridor

Small coffee shop directly opposite Time Square. Entrance is really small so look carefully. Good coffee for $26.

The Coffee Academics

Great coffee a short walk from Times Square in Causeway bay. Coffee is roasted on premise and they have an outside sitting area.

The Globe

Excellent beer pub, also has good menu aimed at western taste buds. It is also one of the few places that has Typhoon T8 on tap, a locally produced cask ale.

The Pawn

Wan Chai. A Western-style bar and cafe in an attractive building that was once a pawn shop. It is away from the naughty parts of Wan Chai in one of the few historic buildings remaining in Hong Kong. It will appeal to visitors seeking a good range of imported beers and wines.

The Smugglers Inn

Located on the sea front, this is a British-style pub that serves a range of beers and traditional English pub food. It is along the Stanley promenade, and offers a great view of the ocean while relaxing with a drink.

The Wanch

A good bar for music lovers with live music playing every night. There is also a showcase of local bands held over several days around the 1st of July every year.

Tung Choi Street

Between Prince Edward Road and Boundary Street, is one of Kowloon's up-and-coming bar strips. Few tourists or expats venture here, but there are nearly two dozen bars. Some specialize in karaoke while others have open fronts and extensive drink menus. Prince Edward MTR, exit A.

Café "1974"

「一九七四」咖啡廳

A coffee shop operated by Po Leung Kuk that also functions as the ICAC's museum. The shop was named after the year of establishment of the Independent Commission Against Corruption, and coffee is known to be one of the drinks available to detainees during interrogation. Good coffee at around $22.

Excelsior Hotel

Popular British-style sports bar in the basement of the Excelsior hotel. A good range of drinks and serves very good English food, including a notable curry lunch buffet.

Moon Garden Tea House

A calming location in a busy part of town where you can choose from over 70 types of tea and, for a price, enjoy the Chinese ritual of tea served in tiny cups. Food is also served.

Starz

There are few bar options in Tung Chung, and this is probably the best you are going to find.

The Jockey

A relaxed British style pub that serves food. When the weather suits this is a great place to sit outside and watch the world pass by.

Works

A good place for tourists to start on the gay bar-scene. Popular with expats and tourists alike, it is easily accessible in Central. Friday and Saturday are the most popular nights but do not expect many drinkers to arrive much before 11PM.
