Arrive at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary well before dusk. The sanctuary is open from 09:00 to 17:00, so this visit must be scheduled for a day when you can enter during the day. Use your admission ticket to feed the troop of kangaroos in the large enclosure at the back. The kangaroos will eat out of your hand from the bag included in your ticket. You can also see wombats, koalas, Tasmanian devils, and the 100-year-old cockatoo. Note that the sanctuary closes at 17:00, so you cannot stay inside for the sunset itself. You must leave the premises before closing.

Check the route to a nearby spot with a western view. Since the sanctuary is not a viewing spot for the sunset and closes early, you need to travel to a location that faces WSW where you can watch the sun set. Do not rely on walking from the sanctuary entrance as it is closed. Check the route for transport or a drive to a suitable vantage point.

Watch the sunset. At 20:49 on 15 January, the sun sets toward the WSW. Find a quiet spot facing west-south-west to see the golden light fade. This is the peak moment of the experience.

End the evening. After the sunset, the light will be gone. Consider where you are and how to return to your accommodation or next destination safely, as it will be dark and the sanctuary is closed. Check the route for your return journey.
Local tip
The sanctuary closes at 17:00. You cannot stay inside for the 20:49 sunset. You must visit during the day to feed the animals and leave before closing, then travel to a separate western-facing viewpoint for the sunset.
