Timeline
16:06
Take the Astram to Fudoin-mae and walk to the temple grounds. Arrive before the sun dips low to explore the Main Hall and the two-story gate in the fading daylight.
17:06
Find a quiet corner in the temple grounds or just outside the gate. Watch the sun set toward the WSW as the golden light fades from the ancient timber structures.
17:51
Head back toward the Astram station. The temple is now closed for the evening, so use the walk back to stretch your legs and transition into the night.
Local tip
The temple is free to enter, but check the specific closing time for the grounds on the day of your visit as it can vary. The Astram is the most reliable way to get there.
Check before you go
- The temple grounds close at dusk. Arriving at least 45 minutes before sunset ensures you can see the architecture before the light fails.
- Astram service ends earlier than sunset. Check the last train time from Fudoin-mae station to ensure you can get back into the city center.
