Timeline
08:00
Drive to Ashmere Lake State Park. This is the closest access point (18 minutes walk from the island anchor) and the most practical base for a daytime visit. Arrive right when it opens to secure parking and enjoy the morning stillness.
08:45
Walk or take a boat to Ashmere Island. Since it is daytime and the water is not frozen, you will need to check the route for boat access from the south launch. Once on the island, find a quiet spot for a picnic. Remember to pack out all food traces as required.
10:00
After your time on the island, head to the other Ashmere Lake State Park area (34 minutes walk from the island anchor). This offers a different perspective of the lake and a chance to stretch your legs in a slightly more remote section of the reserve.
11:20
Return to Ashmere Lake State Park for the end of your visit. Use this time to review your photos or simply sit by the water’s edge as the day winds down.
Local tip
The island is only accessible by boat or ice. Since it is daytime, confirm boat availability and launch location details in advance. No food or drink shops are listed in the immediate vicinity, so bring your own picnic supplies.
Check before you go
- Verify boat launch hours and availability at Ashmere Lake State Park.
- Ensure you have all necessary gear for a picnic, as no shops are nearby.
- Check weather conditions, especially if considering ice access in winter (not applicable for this daytime plan).
