Walk into the Hinsdale Flats Wildlife Management Area. Stroll along the edges of the wetlands while the late afternoon light is still bright enough for clear views.

Head to Ashmere Lake State Park. Find a comfortable spot near the water’s edge to settle in for the final minutes before the sun goes down.

Watch the sunset. The sun sets toward the WSW, casting its final golden light over the lake and flats.

Walk back to the parking area. The light will be fading, so take your time returning to the car as dusk settles.
Local tip
The northern parking area at Middlefield Rd is the more reliable option as the other lot is closed much of the year. Bring a snack or drink with you, as there are no food or drink shops nearby.
