Timeline

  1. 09:00

    Lutheran Cathedral

Stand in Senate Square while the Lutheran Cathedral is still fresh in the morning light. The white stone is striking, and the 12 Apostles on the roof look down on an empty square. Entry is 8€, but the building is often more impressive from the outside anyway.

  2. 09:05

    Market Square

Walk five minutes down Esplanadi to Market Square. At 09:00 on a weekday or Saturday, the stalls are opening up. It is busy in summer, but in spring the morning air is crisp. Look for fresh fish and produce from all over Finland.

  3. 09:20

    Strindberg

Sit at Strindberg on the posh Pohjoisesplanadi terrace. The café opens at 09:00 on weekdays, making it the perfect spot for a coffee and a pastry while people-watching. The view of Esplanadi Park is commanding.

  4. 09:50

    Esplanadi Park

Stroll through Esplanadi Park. Located between the market square and the boulevards, this small but stately park is the heart of the city. In spring, it is full of people enjoying the day.
