Timeline
16:50
Grab a Mojito at La Bodeguita del Medio. It is the place to sample the drink, and going in the evening helps you avoid the daytime tourist crowds from Varadero. The bar is open from 11:00 to 00:00.
17:20
Walk to the Museum of the Revolution. Housed in the former presidential palace, this iconic museum offers a history tour from pre-Columbian times to present-day socialist Cuba. Admission is around US$6.
18:05
Head up to the Cristo de La Habana. This large sculpture of Jesus of Nazareth sits on a hilltop overlooking the bay. On 15 January the sun sets toward the WSW at 18:05, offering a perfect view of the day ending over the water.
18:35
End with natural ice cream at Helad'Oro. It is a refreshing way to finish the evening. The shop is open until 22:00 on weekdays and 23:00 on weekends.
Local tip
The walk from the museum area up to the Cristo de La Habana takes about 20 minutes. Wear comfortable shoes as it is a hill. The view from the top is the main event, so arrive with enough time to find a good spot before the sun dips below the horizon.
