Hire a tuk-tuk from Hat Yai to the Ton Nga Chang Wildlife Sanctuary. The ride takes you 13 km along the Hat Yai-Rattaphum Road, then a left turn at Ban Hu Rae for another 13 km. Arrive with plenty of time to explore the seven levels before the light fades.

Walk up to the third level. This is the most beautiful section where the stream splits into two, resembling an elephant's tusks. Grab a cold drink or a light snack from the vendor stalls near the entrance or trailhead while you wait. The area is open, but check the route for any last-minute access notes.

  3. 18:03

Find a spot near the third level with a view toward the W. The sun sets here at 18:03. The golden light starting at 17:36 will wash over the water and the surrounding jungle, creating a dramatic backdrop for the final descent.

After the sun dips below the horizon, take a slower walk back down the lower levels. The cool evening air and the sound of the falling water provide a peaceful end to the excursion. Wait for your tuk-tuk driver to return you to the city.

Local tip

The trek involves walking up and down several levels. Wear sturdy shoes. The third level is the highlight, so focus your energy there for the best photos during golden hour.

Check before you go

  • Confirm tuk-tuk availability and the 300-400 baht rate in advance.
  • Check the route for any temporary road closures on the Hat Yai-Rattaphum Road.
  • Bring insect repellent and water, as the sanctuary is humid and remote.
