Light and Landscapes at Herrenhausen

Hanover’s baroque gardens are best enjoyed in the quiet afternoon light. This plan starts with a coffee, moves through the historic grounds, and ends with a late lunch, all within a short walk of the OSCO.

Timeline

  1. 16:03

    les' ersatz

Grab a coffee at les' ersatz. It opens at 09:30, so you will be there well before the afternoon rush. It is a 15-minute walk from the OSCO.

  2. 16:33

    Lindener Butjer

Walk 19 minutes east to see the Lindener Butjer sculpture. This public art piece is a quick, pleasant detour on your way north toward the gardens.

  3. 17:33

    Great Garden of Herrenhausen

Enter the Great Garden of Herrenhausen. By 19:00 the golden light is starting, casting long shadows across the baroque layout. Walk the main axes while the light is soft and the crowds are thinning.

  4. 19:03

    Georgen Terrassen

End your walk at Georgen Terrassen, just a 9-minute walk from the garden center. It is open until 21:00, giving you time to settle in for a late dinner as the evening sets in.

Local tip

The gardens are vast. Stick to the main paths near the Great Garden for the best baroque views. Georgen Terrassen is the most convenient spot for a meal if you want to avoid a long walk back to the city center.
