Begin at the Berry Pond & Berry Pond Trail entrance in Pittsfield State Forest. Park and grab your leashed dog. The trailhead is accessible via Cascade Street or the Taconic Crest Trail off Route 20. Start early to beat the heat and the crowds.

Hike the short spur trail up to Berry Hill. At 2,200 feet, this summit offers a clear view of the Taconic Mountains. The walk from the anchor is about 8 minutes, making it a perfect mid-morning stretch.
17:57
Descend back toward the main trail area. Since there are no food or drink shops in the immediate vicinity, bring a packed lunch or snack. Find a quiet spot near Berry Pond to eat while the morning light fades into the golden hour.
18:57
Return to Berry Hill for the golden light moment. The sun is setting toward the WNW, casting long shadows across the ridge. This is the best time for photos and quiet reflection before the day ends.
Local tip
Dogs must be leashed at all times. Check the trail map at the entrance for current conditions. The walk to Berry Hill is short but steep; wear sturdy shoes.
