Grab a coffee or snack inside the village visitor center or cafe before the light fades. The village is large, so starting early gives you time to settle in.

Walk 5 minutes ENE from the main village entrance onto the Shaker Trail. This short hike leads you to a vantage point overlooking the reservoir and the surrounding Pittsfield State Forest.

Find a spot on the trail facing WSW. The sun sets directly in this direction, casting golden light over the reservoir and the old Shaker foundations. Stay for the last few minutes of daylight.
Local tip
The trail is a loop, so you can walk back toward the village center as it gets dark. Bring a jacket as it cools down quickly after sunset.
