Take the #45 bus from Bus Depot #15 to the end and arrive at Okuyama Hōkō-ji early. Enter the grounds to absorb the quiet atmosphere among the pines and sakura before the crowds arrive. The temple is open, so you can explore the halls and the 14th-century Shichison Bosatsudo at your own pace.

Find a quiet corner within the temple grounds or a nearby bench outside the main halls. Enjoy a snack or drink you brought with you. The late afternoon light begins to soften, casting long shadows through the trees and highlighting the wooden textures of the ancient buildings.

Watch the sunset. In April, the sun sets toward the WNW at 18:21. The golden light that started around 17:47 will be fading into twilight, creating a serene backdrop for the temple’s many halls and the revered Buddha statues inside.

  4. 18:51

Stay for the transition into evening. The temple lights may begin to illuminate the paths as the natural light fades. Take a final walk through the grounds to let the stillness settle before heading back to Bus Depot #15 for the return trip.
