Timeline

  1. 16:47

    Seokguram Grotto

Arrive at Seokguram Grotto. The entrance is open until 17:30, so you have plenty of time to enter, pay the fee, and settle in before the sun dips. Photography is prohibited inside, so leave your camera bag at the entrance and just look with your eyes. The granite Buddha gazes east, but the real show is the light fading over the mountain.

  2. 17:47

    Seokguram Grotto

The sun sets toward the W. While the Buddha faces east, the closing light filters through the grotto’s structure, casting long shadows and turning the stone warm. Stay for the final minutes of daylight as the sky shifts from gold to deep blue.

  3. 18:17

    Seokguram Grotto

Head back down the mountain. It is now dark, so take it easy on the path. Check the route for the bus or taxi back to town if you need transport.

  4. 18:47

    Seokguram Grotto

Find dinner in Gyeongju town. The city is small enough that you can walk or take a short taxi ride from the temple area to a local restaurant. Enjoy a warm meal to celebrate the end of the day.

Local tip
