Hwangnam Gyeongju Ten-Won Bread
Pick up a warm 10-won bread, filled with melting mozzarella, from Hwangnam Gyeongju Ten-Won Bread. It is a local viral icon and perfect fuel for a walk.
17:12
Walk to Cheomseongdae Observatory. Arrive with twenty minutes to spare to find a good spot on the grassy perimeter. The structure is the oldest existing observatory in the Far East, built in 634.
17:32
Watch the sun dip below the horizon toward the WSW. The golden light fades from the stone structure as the day ends.
17:47
Stroll five minutes SSW into Gyerim Forest. The ancient trees, some over 2000 years old, offer a peaceful transition from the open square to the shaded historic site between the observatory and the National Museum.
Local tip
The 10-won bread shop closes at 21:00, so head there early in the late afternoon. Gyerim Forest is open after sunset, but bring a light if you prefer to stay in the trees after dark.
