Drive 17 km south of Guyra on the New England Highway/A15, turn right onto Thunderbolts Cave Road, and sharp left onto Robbers Run Trail. Park in the small area and walk the 150 m to the cave. Note that the walk can be difficult, so take your time and check the path condition if it has rained.

Stand at the cave entrance. This is a tiny hide-out used by Captain Thunderbolt between 1867 and 1868. Use the golden light period to see the rock face clearly before it gets dark. Picnic tables are available nearby if you want to rest.

Watch the sun set toward the WSW. The light will fade quickly once the sun dips below the horizon. Stay for a few minutes to let your eyes adjust to the dark.
20:29
Walk back to your car and drive the 17 km north back to Guyra on the same route. Check the route if you are unfamiliar with the roads in the dark.

Find a place in Guyra for dinner and a drink. Since there are no food or drink options listed in the immediate vicinity of the cave, you will need to return to town to eat. Look for a local pub or cafe in Guyra that is open in the evening.
Local tip
