Timeline

  1. 16:09

    Gunnedah Rural Museum

Grab a coffee and a snack at the Gunnedah Rural Museum. The museum is open until 3 PM, so this is a good time to browse the eclectic collection of historical equipment before the evening crowds arrive. Check the route from here to the lookout.

  2. 17:09

    Wandobah Reserve

Walk to Wandobah Reserve. This park is just a short seven-minute walk from the museum and offers a quiet spot to settle in. The orientation places the museum to the WNW, meaning you are facing somewhat towards the sunset direction, but the real view comes from the open space.

  3. 17:39

    Wandobah Reserve

Watch the sun set towards the W. As the golden light fades around 17:39, the sky over the Pullaman Plains will shift from bright gold to deep blue. The reserve is a calm place to observe this transition without the need for specialized equipment.

  4. 18:24

    McAndrew Park

End your evening at McAndrew Park. It is a nineteen-minute walk from the reserve and offers a different perspective of the town as the lights come on. It is a peaceful way to conclude the experience.

Local tip

The Gunnedah Rural Museum closes at 3 PM, so ensure you finish your browsing and departure with enough time to reach the park before sunset. The sunset direction shifts slightly throughout the year, but in April it sets directly towards the W, which is visible from the open areas of the parks.
