Timeline
16:54
Grab a coffee and a slice of cake at The Verdict Coffee. It is a modern spot with faux-hipster vibes, perfect for settling in before the walk. Note that there are no reservations on Saturday, so arrive early if you are visiting on the weekend.
17:24
Walk to the corner of Barber Street and Warrabungle Street. Do not approach the maize mill directly as it is private property. Instead, head to the walkway on the bridge linking the Oxley Highway and Warrabungle Street. This is the only permitted vantage point to view Dorothea Mackellar and her poem 'My Country' painted on the 29-metre high structure. Watch for vehicles entering and leaving the mill and do not block the driveway.
17:39
Stand on the bridge and watch the sunset. The sun sets toward the W, casting a warm light on the silo art just as the golden hour begins at 17:06. The contrast between the painted text and the fading sky is the highlight of the visit.
18:09
Stroll over to Wolseley Park to let the evening settle in. It is a short walk from the bridge and offers a quiet space to decompress after the view.
Local tip
The sun sets toward the WSW in January, W in April, and WNW in July. For the best alignment with the silo art during golden hour, aim for mid-April when the sun sets directly west.
