Church of San Cayetano Confesor
Take the 'Valenciana' or 'Cristo Rey' bus from the corner of Alhóndiga and Calle 28 de Septiembre to the Church of San Cayetano Confesor. Arrive well before the sun dips. The Churrigueresque facade is striking in the late afternoon, but the real treat is inside: finely-carved altars covered in gold leaf that catch the dying light. The church is open until 18:00, so you have time to wander the nave and appreciate the craftsmanship before the doors close.

Walk south to the Museo Casa Diego Rivera. It is a 42-minute walk from the church, but if you prefer a quicker route, check the local transport options. This was Rivera’s birthplace, a preserved traditional residence. Spend a few minutes looking at his simple, socialist-inspired works. The building itself is a quiet contrast to the ornate church you just left.

Dinner at Mestizo. It is just a 2-minute walk from the museum. This is a fine dining restaurant and art gallery combined, offering fabulous food at mid-range prices with a great atmosphere. Since it opens at 13:00 on weekdays and weekends, it is ready for your post-sunset meal. The ambiance fits the artistic theme of the neighborhood perfectly.
19:54
End the night at Famoso Bar Incendio. Walk 7 minutes from your dinner spot to this typical Mexican cantina, one of the oldest in Guanajuato. It has a student environment and is famous for its mezcales. It is open until 23:00, giving you plenty of time to enjoy a drink and the local vibe before the night winds down.
Local tip
The church closes at 18:00, so do not linger inside if you want to catch the sunset view from the exterior or head to the museum. The walk from the church to the museum is long; plan your bus or taxi accordingly.
