Timeline
17:33
Start with coffee and a light snack at Chai Américas Coffee. It is open until 23:00, so you have plenty of time before the sun goes down. The walk from the park is short, about 14 minutes.
18:03
Walk east-southeast from the park for about 52 minutes to reach the Cabañas Cultural Institute. Arrive with half an hour to spare. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the perfect vantage point to see the sun set toward the WSW, casting long shadows across the plaza.
18:33
Stay at the Cabañas Cultural Institute to watch the sunset. The golden light peaks around 18:01, illuminating the building’s exterior before the sun disappears below the horizon.
19:18
End the evening with dinner at La Chata. It is a very popular spot serving traditional food, just a 16-minute walk from the institute. The restaurant stays open until midnight, so you can enjoy a meal in the lively atmosphere after the sun has set.
Local tip
La Chata is very crowded, so expect a wait for a table. The walk from the Cabañas to La Chata is straightforward, heading generally west-northwest back toward the park area.
