    Saracen's Head

Walk to Saracen's Head. This old school pub at the gateway to the Barrowlands area offers a clear view of the eastern horizon. Arrive early to secure a spot outside or near a window to watch the sky lighten.

  2. 08:37

    Saracen's Head

Watch the sunrise. The sun rises toward the ESE, rising above the rooftops of the East End. The light is crisp and cold in January.

  3. 08:52

    Wellpark Brewery

Head to Wellpark Brewery. Just a short walk from the pub, this is the largest brewery in Scotland. Check the website for tour availability, as tours run Wed-Sun. If tours are not running, you can still visit the taproom or simply admire the historic brewing site.

  4. 09:22

    Wellpark Brewery

Enjoy a drink. Sample Tennent's Lager, the brewery's best-seller, brewed on this site since 1556. It is the perfect way to warm up after the morning chill.

Local tip

The walk from Saracen's Head to Wellpark Brewery is short but exposed. Dress warmly for the January sunrise. If you miss the tour window, the brewery area is still worth a visit for the history.

Check before you go

  • Wellpark Brewery tours run Wed-Sun. Verify opening hours on the day if you plan to enter the brewery grounds or taproom.
  • Saracen's Head is a pub; check if it is open early enough for your sunrise viewing if you do not plan to walk in from the street.
