Timeline

  1. 17:29

    Qikiqtaq Co-Op

Pick up a warm drink or a snack from Qikiqtaq Co-Op. It is the main store in town, so you will find everything you need for a small picnic. The walk from the Northwest Passage Territorial Park takes about 13 minutes each way, so give yourself plenty of time to browse and get back.

  2. 18:59

    Northwest Passage Territorial Park

Find a spot in Northwest Passage Territorial Park. The park has several areas, including the harbour and the old Hudson’s Bay trading post. Settle in near the water or the heritage centre. As the golden light begins at 18:59, the sun will sit low in the sky, casting long shadows and a warm glow over the landscape. The sun sets toward the WNW, so look in that direction for the best view.

  3. 19:59

    Northwest Passage Territorial Park

Stay in the park as the light fades. The transition from golden hour to twilight is slow in the high north. You can walk around the different areas of the park, seeing the replica of the Gjøa and the historical markers, while the sky changes colour.

Local tip

The walk between the park and the store is 13 minutes. Check the route if you are not familiar with the area.
