Timeline

  1. 09:00

    Moraine Walk

Start at the Moraine Walk trailhead. Lace up and head out for the 40-minute round trip. The path crosses a moraine surface and enters native bush, offering a peaceful introduction to the landscape before the crowds arrive.

  2. 09:50

Return to the main area. Since there are no food or drink shops listed in the immediate vicinity, bring your own snack or water. If you need provisions, check the route to the nearest town for cafes or grocery stores.

  3. 10:10

    Glacier Viewpoint

Walk 11 minutes SSE to the Glacier Viewpoint. This short stop offers a clear, unobstructed view of the glacier tongue. It is a good spot to rest your legs and take in the scale of the ice field.

  4. 10:40

    Fox Glacier South Side Viewpoint

Continue 15 minutes SSE to the Fox Glacier South Side Viewpoint. This provides a different perspective of the glacier from the south side, completing your visual survey of the area.

Local tip

The Moraine Walk is best done early to avoid midday heat and other groups. The viewpoints are short walks from the main area, but the terrain can be uneven, so wear sturdy shoes.
