Drive or walk to the mainland side of the El Cuyo bridge. Park and head into the preserve to find a quiet spot along the water's edge or on one of the hiking trails. The swamps are home to flamingoes and pelicans, so keep an eye out for them as the light begins to fade.

  2. 17:29

    UMA San Miguel

Watch the sun set toward the WSW. The golden light starts about 16:57, painting the coastal wetlands in warm hues. This is the perfect moment to simply absorb the atmosphere of the nature preserve.

  3. 17:59

    UMA San Miguel

Stay for a while after dark. The jungle comes alive with different sounds and sights as the day birds settle in. If you are more inclined toward physical activity than a Jeep tour, you can explore the trails further in the twilight.

Local tip

The preserve offers kayak trips including sunset trips. If you want to be on the water for the sunset, check the route for booking ahead. For those less inclined toward physical activity, a Jeep tour through the jungle is also available.
