Golden Light at The Georgian House

An early start built around sunrise (or golden light just after): the moment first, then breakfast or coffee once places open.

Best time: 15 JanAbout 90 min

Timeline

  1. 14:00

    The Georgian House

Arrive at The Georgian House before the golden light hits the square. The self-guided tour offers a chance to see Robert Adam’s 1796 townhouse furnished in the style of its first owner. Mid-summer bookings are essential, but in January you can usually walk in. Use this quiet hour to appreciate the imposing north facade and the historic interiors before the crowds arrive.

  2. 15:00

    The Georgian House

Step out into the square as the golden light begins at 15:00. The sun sets toward the SW, casting a warm glow on the restored Georgian architecture. This is the perfect moment to take in the view of the square’s symmetry and the details of the building designed by Robert Adam.

  3. 15:30

    The Dome

Walk 13 minutes to The Dome for a late lunch or coffee. This bar and grill in a former bank headquarters offers a grand interior with impressive ceilings. Open from 10:00, it is the perfect spot to refuel after your morning walk, enjoying the historic atmosphere while the light is still bright.

Local tip

The Georgian House can sell out in mid-summer, so book ahead if visiting then. In winter, the 10:00 opening time allows for a relaxed visit before the golden light begins.
