Edinburgh International Climbing Arena
Walk to the outdoor climbing area of the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena. The disused quarry setting offers open views toward the southwest. Find a safe spot on the periphery where you can sit or lean against a rock wall and watch the sky.
15:01
The golden light hits the quarry walls at 15:01. The sun sets toward the SW shortly after at 16:11. Stay for the full transition as the light shifts from bright gold to the deep blues of twilight.
15:46
End your evening by finding a quiet spot in the surrounding area to reflect on the climb or simply enjoy the cool air after the sun has gone down. Check the route back to your transport.
Local tip
The quarry can be windy. Bring a layer for the golden hour period.
Check before you go
- The venue is an active climbing centre. Ensure you are not blocking any climbing routes or safety zones when finding your viewing spot.
- Outdoor areas may be closed or have limited access depending on weather conditions or maintenance. Check if the outdoor quarry is open to the public on the day of your visit.
