Arrive and grab a hot drink or snack from the on-site facilities. The venue opens at 09:00, so it will be open well before this time. Note that some facilities are currently under construction, so check the route for the most up-to-date access information.

  2. 15:41

    Midlothian Snowsports Centre

Walk up to the top of the main 400 m slope. Wear long trousers, long sleeves, and gloves, as the dendrex matting can be harsh if you fall. Find a spot with a clear view of the southwest horizon where the sun will set.

  3. 16:11

    Midlothian Snowsports Centre

Watch the sun set toward the southwest. The golden light begins around 15:01, providing a soft glow over the snow and matting before the sun dips below the horizon at 16:11.

  4. 16:56

    Midlothian Snowsports Centre

Head back down and rest at the base area. The centre remains open until 19:00 on Saturdays and Sundays, or 21:00 on weekdays, giving you plenty of time to stay warm and reflect on the view before heading home.

Local tip

The dendrex matting is rough. Bring gloves and long layers to protect your skin in case you slip on the slopes or the surrounding areas.
